As an experienced and knowledgeable visual communication designer, I work to visually convey a particular message or idea that has noticeable appeal for promoting and displaying a wide variety of products, activities and communications. I have the ability to take a general concept and turn it into a visually compelling product that garners not only attention but favourable results as well. I instinctively know when to use clean lines and muted tones and when instead, to use vibrant designs with bold hues that grab the attention.
How I work
Working closely alongside the client, I begin expanding upon an initial concept, ask questions as to the end goal, discuss budgets and deadlines, then agree on the finalised design, fee and due date. Usually I juggle more than one project simultaneously, allocating part of my time to each.
I was born in Athens in 1976. I studied graphic design and typography at Vakalo - Art & Design College and I have a Master in the field of web design. I worked for 13 years (2000-2013) at Hellenic Bank Association as visual communication designer and I was responsible of all the print and electronic publications. Moreover I have collaborated with the Institute of Labour of OTOE as art advisor, the Panteion University of Athens, the University of Piraeus, the Association of Young Scientists of European Studies and many more.
The hobby of gourmet cooking entails the skillful preparation of high quality or exotic foods during free time and for pleasure.
For my meals I consider balances between textures and colors (just like painting), the lasting, memorable effect it has on the diner, and there is an element of striving for perfection that only comes with practice. I use decorative garnishes that basic cooking doesn't bother with.
Culinary is essentially an art!
I am by no means an expert but I like to consider myself pretty well capable and comfortable in the kitchen. Everything I' ve learned is self-taught through trial and error, reading cookbooks and recipes and of course going to fancy restaurants all over the world!
History & philosophy
Nescire autem quid antequam natus sis acciderit, id est semper esse puerum
To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born, is to remain always a child - Marcus Tullius Cicero
I love history and philosophy.
Part of what I like to do with my time, is construct mental models of how things are and how things were. I like to imagine the past and to walk through the ages in my mind. The more I read philosophy, the more I fill in the blanks in my understanding and in my mental image of the universe in which we live. I like to try to understand how human beings and societies have changed and how they have remained the same. How are the conditions of society similar and different, what are the motives and bases for action. But to be honest, I prefer from specific eras to study selected personalities such as the Romans from Aemilus Paulus to Marcus Aurelius. Also the Borgias, the Medicis, the Bourbons and the Cardinals that surounded them.
"The dog" may sound a strange title for a hobby or interest but as a general term it suits the subject well since my dog Ovelix, is a loving and powerful Neapolitan Mastiff (Mastino Napoletano).
Neapolitan Mastiffs as a breed, are extremely intelligent dogs with a tendency to be independent thinkers. They learn quickly, which is both good and bad, especially for it is very difficult to physically dominate a dog that is as large as an adult human.
When Ovelix was a puppy, secretly used to eat doors, door frames, rugs, carpets, lighters, books, chair legs, clothing and mobile phones. Until today, he chews anything that he can get his teeth into, mainly when he is bored. More than anything else, he requires personal attention. He often attaches himself, shadow-like, to me and wants to sit on my feet and lean his weight (75 kilos) against my leg… Even when he doesn’t act like this, his presence could never be unnoticeable, since he would perform admirably in drooling, slobbering and snoring competition! But most of all Ovelix is a devoted and charismatic companion from whom I receive loyalty and every day a "welcome home" as if I was away for years. What can't beat that?
